Have you ever thought to yourself: ´If there is a God, then I should also feel God? And if I don’t feel God, well probably He is not there´. Maybe you have been to a church, or a mosque, or another religious building to see whether you would feel God. Maybe you have even tried to pray and thought: `Well, maybe I will get a signal if God is there. And that you became disappointed afterwards because you didn’t feel anything. And then you thought: ´Well, if I don’t feel anything, God is probably not there. He does not exist´.
But the question is if that conclusion is correct. If you don’t feel God, does that mean that God is not there? Suppose you’re walking outside. And it’s winter. And it’s cold and you’ve got those stone cold fingers. And you think: ´I wish there would be a place where I could warm my hands. Just for a second, just for a while´. And you walk past the house and the door is open. And there is a sign saying: ´Welcome!´ And through the door you see a big room with a burning fire place. And what will you do at that moment? Will you walk towards the fire place? Will you keep your distance and stay at the threshold, doubting whether you will go in or not? Or will you walk away? Then you say: ´Well, any sensible person would walk toward the fireplace and warm their hands´. But the question is if you would also do that towards God. Because there are many people who are missing the warmth of living with God. But still, they keep their distance. They don’t feel the warmth, but is that because there is no fireplace? No, it’s because they choose to keep their distance. As it is also written in Liberatie 146, regel 15-18:
“Door eigen toedoen de warmte niet voelen, betekent niet dat de haard er niet ís. Daar slaan velen bij Godsbeleving de plank mis”
So if you don’t feel anything, it doesn´t mean that God is not there. If you want to feel God, you just have to come closer. And you do that through listening to God and apply what He says to your life. And if you do so, you will feel the warmth of living with God. You will feel and experience God in your own way.
